

Broadus Heyward Wright (1939-2026) passed away on June 8, 2026, surrounded by his family in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was an Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America and graduated with a degree in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1961. He earned an MBA degree from the University of South Carolina in 1962. Broadus ("Bill") built a career in the textile and fiber manufacturing industry, holding a variety of management positions in the United States and abroad in Northern Ireland and Italy. After spending 28 years with E. I. DuPont de Nemours & Co, and retiring in 1991, he was employed as the manager of Globe Manufacturing Co. in Tuscaloosa. In addition to his civilian career, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for 21 years, retiring in 1990 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He married Elizabeth David ("Bitzi"), a registered nurse and native of South Carolina in 1960. Together they raised five children and were blessed with one grandchild. His life was marked by professional achievement, unwavering commitment to his family, and love of reading and Alabama football. Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bitzi, his children Deborah, Stephanie, Jennifer and Heyward and his granddaughter Julia. He was preceded in death by his son Jonathan in 2003. A private memorial service will be held on June 12, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church.
