
Burl E. Hutson, age 80, of Woodbridge, Va., died Feb. 17, 2012, at Forest Manor Nursing Home in Northport. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192, with Rev. Dick Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at Miller Funeral Home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is in charge of local arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Billie Jo Hutson; his mother, Tempie Hutson; his father, Ira Hutson; and his sister, Neva Beth Ferguson.
Survivors include his daughters, Katherine Hershman (Glen) of Tuscaloosa, Laura Dye (Roger) of Gaithersburg, MD, and Lora Hutson of Woodbridge, VA, formerly of California; his sons, Steve Hutson (Janet) of Stafford, VA and Kevin Hutson (Mary) of Manassas, VA; his sisters, Ann Anthony of Houston, Texas and Ramona Andrews (Jim) of Dallas, Texas; his brothers, Don Hutson (Charlene) of Dallas, Texas and Jerry Hutson of Tahlequah, OK; his grandchildren, Aaron and Alison Hutson, Aurorae and Orion Dye, Adam and Ashley Hutson, and Daniel Hershman; and his great-granddaugher, Melody Hutson.
Burl Hutson was born and raised in Atkins, Arkansas where he graduated from Atkins High School and was captain of the football team. He enlisted in the Air Force and had an illustrious career of 23 years, receiving the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation and Good Conduct medals, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. After retiring, he became a partner in the furniture business Dumfries Discount House for 27 years. He enjoyed his family, traveling with his wife Billie Jo Hutson, and supporting and attending family reunions. He was a former deacon of First Baptist Church of Woodbridge, VA.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hutson, Kevin Hutson, Roger Dye, Orion Dye, Aaron Hutson, Adam Hutson, Glen Hershman, and Daniel Hershman.
Honorary pallbearers are Forest Manor Nursing Home Station 3; caregivers Joe Stewart, Rudy Gibson, and Janie and Leo Archibald; Dr. Summerford and Jenna Cooper CRNP; Hospice of West Alabama; and the Jerry Thomas Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Forest Manor Nursing Home, Hospice of West Alabama, or First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
