Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2026 at 11:00 am, with visitation 1 hour prior at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Springer and Rev. Scott Garvin officiating.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ina (Bridges) Carr and Hurtis Carr, Sr.; her brothers Hurtis Carr, Jr., Elbert Carr, Harold Carr, and Milton Carr, her sisters Frances Moore, Claire Jones and Sara Terrell, and husband of 66 years James Massey Sr.
She is survived by her sons James Massey, Jr (Judy), Johnny Massey (Lori), Jeff Massey (Sonja), Joey Massey (Mechelle), her 8 grandchildren Jamie Hite (Jarod), Jeremy Massey (Sarah), Amanda Wilder (David), Heather Mayhall (Michael), Justin Massey, Jennifer Doughty (Steven), Dax Massey (Kaci), Zane Massey (Hannah) sister Betty Davis and 15 great grandchildren.
After raising her four sons to school age, she began a career with the Tuscaloosa County School System, working in various lunchrooms and the central office for more than 28 years. After retirement she spent many happy years traveling with Jimmy and their friends in the Bama Sam’s camping group. When she was not traveling you could find her tending her flowers in the yard or in the kitchen preparing her special recipes. Sunday afternoons were cherished from the time her boys were young until her last days with us. She always had a special homemade pie or cake ready to enjoy. To so many she was the cookie and peanut brittle lady but to us she was Memaw - the rock that held us all together. She leaves us with some big shoes to fill.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jarod Hite, Jeremy Massey, David Wilder, Michael Mayhall, Justin Massey, Steven Doughty, Dax Massey, and Zane Massey.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Grants Creek Baptist Church, especially the Martha Foster ladies Sunday school and her weekly exercise group, Bama Sam’s traveling group and friends of Coker.
