He was loved and cherished by many, including his daughters Lacey and Olivia; his parents Priscilla and the late William Bruce Hutchins, III; his sister, Fran Hutchins; his sister-in-law, Laura; his girlfriend, Therése; and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Chris grew up in Hoover, Alabama and attended Advent Episcopal School, Simmons Middle School, Hoover High School, and the University of Alabama, where he studied communications. Like his father, Chris worked at Alabama Power Company. He was a proud father to two girls with his former wife, Brooke Phillipson. He loved attending Alabama football games with his family, scuba diving, snowboarding, riding motorcycles, and most of all spending time with his girls, Lacey and Liv.
He moved to California in 2015 to enter a recovery program for substance abuse. While there, he found a passion for helping others on their journey to recovery and was working as a counselor at a treatment center. He had recently completed a certificate program at UCLA for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling and was planning a move to Atlanta to be closer to his family.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 at 6pm at North River Church. Rev. Scott Reynolds will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chris’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Chris’s honor to the Bruce Hutchins Family Endowed Softball Scholarship at the University of Alabama (http://bit.ly/HutchinsUA) or to the Herren Project, which was founded by former professional basketball player, Chris Herren, with the goal of helping others navigate the road to recovery from the disease of addiction.
