She is also survived by many other special people in her life including: Brenda Hearn (neice), Al Hernandez (nephew), Mary Ellen McCoy, Angie, Letha, Mary Ann, Angela, Christy, Marie, Michelle, Christine, Peanut and numerous others at Moundville Health and Rehab.
“MeMe” as she was affectionately known, was born and raised in Georgia, she was a proud “Spit Fire Georgia Cracker.” Her early years were spent raising twins and being a homemaker. Her love of sewing led her to work at Greensboro Manufacturing for many years. Later in life, her time was spent at Pine Valley until moving to Moundville Health and Rehab, it was there they learned of her love for winning at BINGO, no matter if the only prize was a pack of crackers. "MeMe’s" days were spent, first with coffee, getting dressed, lipstick on, hair fixed. Then, and only then, she would wait for the staff and friends to visit and for someone to rub her knees. She was well known for never having a hair out of place, even on a windy day. An opinion she had, on everything and everybody, you could take it or leave it, but no doubt, “MeMe” always very clearly spoke her mind. When things did not go as planned, her times of disagreement were labeled as “Having a Duck!” –and be assured, there were many “Ducks” to be had! However, when reasoned with, these instances could be avoided, if given proper warning! Amazingly, “MeMe” never looked her age, she always maintained a great memory and was always in the know with daily happenings at Moundville Health and Rehab, she was everyone’s “MeMe” and to know her was to love her.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Ms. Calhoun’s honor to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, c/o Greg Cochran, 814 Ironville Road, Marion, AL 36756.
