Memorial Services will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service at 4:30 p.m.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and J.W. Pate; and son, Brandon Smothers.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Connie Pate; daughter, Whitney Pate Kiehn (Adam); sons, Danny James Pate II (Lauren) and Daniel Smothers; sister, Dian Rominger Hankinson (Eric); brother, Dale Pate (Sissy Spath); grandchildren, Erin Smothers, Gavin Smothers, Hayden Smothers, Carter Kiehn, Charlie Kiehn, Jaxon Pate, and Sophie Kiehn; nieces and nephews, Shea Richardson, Jeff Rominger, and Daniel Pate; and countless other family and friends.
Danny was a big man with a big heart and a tremendous love for the Lord. He was a generous man to his family, friends, neighbors, community, and even strangers. Danny was always willing to help others any time, any place, and for any reason. He was lovingly known to many as "Poppa", "Power Pole", and "Big Danny". He was an expert fisherman, a little league football coach, a mentor to many, a gardener, a jokester, a prankster, an avid storyteller, a hunter, a NASCAR fan, and a Crimson Tide fan. Danny loved working with special needs individuals and veterans and spent countless hours doing so. Danny leaves behind a legacy of love for the Lord and serving others.
