

Danny Ray Smith, age 66, of Tuscaloosa, passed away at 9:20 a.m. on February 17, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama surrounded by his family. Graveside Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014, at Memory Hill Gardens with Ron Wilson officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Scott Smith and his father, Wyman Smith.He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Billie Jo Smith; daughter, Tiffany Smith Williams (Heath); the special loves of his life his grandchildren, Blakely and Kase; brother, Mickey Smith (Judy); and mother, Blanche Smith.He owned Danny Smith Construction Co. and has been a homebuilder/land developer for over 30 years. He also owned Dixie Air Services and had a passion for airplanes and flying as well. He loved spending time with his family at the beach in Destin, Fla. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many and will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Doug Hollyhand, Ryan Shirley, Benton Andrews, Donnie Smith, Sam Lawler, Todd Smith, Jason Seale, and Gary Cobb. Honorary pallbearers are his hunting buddies, Sam Lawler, Jack Watts, Jack Marshall, and the late Marshall Nodine, Jean Crowell, Mickey Hollyhand, Catherine Hollingsworth, Gertrude Loper, Duell Holloway, Wayne and Pat Cobb, employees of Dixie Air, former employees of Danny Smith Construction, staff members of ICU and 6th Floor South, Dr. George Miller, staff members of Hospice of West Alabama, and special nurse Jill.
