Doris Brown Pace Ashton went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2025 surrounded by the love of her two daughters. Doris was born in Bailey, Mississippi to Aubrey Caroll Brown and Hattie Jewell Snowden Brown on March 3, 1933.
Doris was a devoted daughter of Christ and taught her two girls to always love the Lord, their family and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Through her example of pursuing a nursing career after Pamela and Wanda went to elementary school, she taught them the value of education, hard work, and compassion for our fellow man. Doris was an amazing nurse for 32 years and a loving and supportive Mother. She was our rock!
She continuously spread the Good News of salvation through her teaching of Sunday School, singing in the choir, visiting home bound members of her churches, and teaching Vacation Bible School. What an inspiring example she was to her children.
She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Edmound Bradley Pace, her second husband, Edwin Ashton, her mother and father, and her sister, Norma Pace, and her son-in-law, Gary Lackey. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Pace Lackey of Columbia, SC and Wanda Pace Campbell of Birmingham, her beloved granddaughter, Lindsey Marie Campbell, and her great granddaughter, Ayla Campbell-Ford, both of Birmingham. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Yarborough of Demopolis, Carol Strahan( David) of Pascagoula, MS, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves two beloved sisters-in-law, Pat Colwick and Val Weathers.
The family would like to thank HomeRN for their wonderful care of Doris for the last year. But more importantly, we thank her best friend, Sherice Brown for her dedication and care for many years.
A graveside service will be held at Memory Hill Gardens, 2200 Skyland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405 on November 16, 2025 at 2:00pm. The family will be present for visitation at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 900 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 or to a charity of the donors choosing.
