Dorothy Ryan was born January 7, 1935 and left this earth on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Prince; mother, Mariene Upchurch; brother, Gene Prince; husband, Ralph Clements; and son, Philip Bartlett. She is survived by her sons, Steve Bartlett (Laura) and Keith Bartlett (Patricia); grandchildren, Ray Bartlett (Amy), Briar Bartlett (Roni), Joseph Bartlett (Ashton), Briana Aulin-Jansen (Daniel), Kailey Bartlett; great-grandchildren, Anderson, Raylea Kate, Philip, Josie James, Christian, and William; and daughter-in-law, Dawn Gilbert (Tim).
Dot was a lifetime resident of Tuscaloosa and a proud Tuscaloosa Black Bear. After graduation, she started her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. While raising her 3 sons, she attended every baseball, football, basketball and track meet they competed in. She was an exceptionally hard worker and always made a way to provide, while being a present and loving mother to her sons. Her most treasured moments were Sunday afternoons when her children and grandchildren would gather for a home cooked meal at her home where lots of love, laughter and memories were made. During her time of work, she was in the office supply industry, serving the Tuscaloosa community for over 50 years and later retired from Kyle Office Supply.
Dorothy loved the Lord and it was always evident by the life she lived. She had a true servants heart and a love for others. She led her family by example and lived by Proverbs 31; “ She is clothed with strength and dignity, she speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue, her children arise and call her blessed, charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gates.”
"If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, Place them in my Mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away." Goodbye for now, until we see you again, you will always be in our hearts.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bartlett, Keith Bartlett, Ray Bartlett, Briar Bartlett, Joseph Bartlett and Billy Hoggle. A special thank you to Oasis Hospice and the Nursing staff of Forest Manor Nursing.
