
Rev. Lewis Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Vaughn Johnson; a son, Fred V. Johnson (Jeanette); two sisters, Ouita Livingston and Billie Gleisberg; and two grandchildren, Garrett and Betsy Johnson.
Fred served in the Korean War and retired from the City of Tuscaloosa Fire Department with 37 years of service. His last position was Assistant Fire Chief. Fred was a member of Fairview Wesleyan Church. A gifted wood craftsman, the pieces he made and shared will be cherished forever. He was physically a huge man with a heart to match. His bear hugs will be missed forever.
Pallbearers will be Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue Service.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. George Miller, employees of Forest Manor Nursing Home, and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
