

Dwight Harold Metternich, age 76, of Tuscaloosa, AL passed away August 5, 2021 at Glen Haven Health and Rehabilitation in Northport, AL. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with burial following in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Born on July 19, 1945 in Detroit, MI, Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara J. Metternich and daughter, Christie E. Metternich. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold G. Metternich and Winifred Perry Metternich.
Dwight graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in Keokuk, IA, and then from the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, OK. While in the U.S. Army Dwight served as an air traffic controller and flight instructor at an airfield in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, he and his wife Barbara settled in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Dwight was a corporate pilot (Phifer Wire), a computer expert and a small-business owner.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, and often prepared his famous ribs for family get-togethers or for watching Alabama Crimson Tide football games. He also enjoyed playing golf, undertaking wood-working projects or tinkering with electronic gadgets.
Pallbearers will be Bob Lundell, Dave Naefe, Dean McClure, Frank Upchurch, Fred Hoenig and Jay Cozart.
Honorary pallbearers are Stan Graf and Tony Hoenig.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to a charity of your choice.
