Earl Burns Parker was born November 2, 1926. He passed away on September 15, 2022, merely 48 days before his 96th birthday. He was known by his nickname of “Cob” in his hometown of Roanoke, Alabama, which meant “rough as a cob”, Dad and Daddy to his 3 kids, Edward B. Parker, II, Janet Parker Furlong and Jane Parker Poore, and Papa to his 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Dad left an outstanding legacy and example for his descendants. He was a gifted athlete at Handley High School, Ranger Airborne during the Korean War, lifetime career loyal employee of the Bell Telephone System and a devoted and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
His greatest passion was always the University of Alabama football program. He was a lifelong season ticket holder originally going to games with his father when he was a child, then alone as an adult on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and later with his only son onboard as well, eventually followed by his Ford Mustang sports car with his grandsons. He was a mainstay at all youth sporting events in the Montgomery, Alabama area for decades for which he gained the status of a well-known loved fan and supporter of the kids and making himself into an “unofficial scout” for Paul “Bear” Bryant and the University of Alabama football program.
Dad was an entertaining storyteller mesmerizing his kids and grandkids with tales from his many lifetime adventures. He rode a motorcycle until his late 80’s. He was a long-time serving member and officer of the American Legion Montgomery County Post 2, American Legion Randolph County Post 53 and the 40/8 Chef De Gare 1978, 426 AL.
Dad was loved, respected and admired by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed. He was a wonderful example of a life well-lived.
