She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Robert B. Elliott; her parents, Paul and Goldie Swett; her sisters, Ireta Maine, Bona Durant and Shirley Smith.
Edith is survived by her brother, Gale Swett of Tennessee. She was the loving mother of three surviving children, David Elliott of Jensen Beach, Florida, Candace Elliott Denny (Milton) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and
William "Chad" Elliott (Kae) of Casper, Wyoming; and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Edith was born on February 21, 1923 in Pittsfield, Illinois. In 1939, her family moved to St. Charles, Illinois where she graduated from St. Charles High School in 1940. She met and married Robert Elliott in 1942 and was a stay-at-home Mom to her three children until her oldest son entered college.
Edith was employed by the St. Charles National Bank for 18 years where she started as a file clerk and eventually became head bookkeeper and a vice president of the bank. In 1979, she and her husband followed her daughter and family to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she and two friends opened a children's resale shop called Twice as Nice.
She operated the shop alone for the last six years before she retired in 1996.
Edith was a member of University Lutheran Church, Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Fertitta of University Lutheran Church of Tuscaloosa officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideon's International, University Lutheran Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
