

Edna Tubbs Martin, age 87, of Rock Hill, S.C., formerly of Moundville, died Feb. 1, 2012, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, S.C. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Reba Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Martin of Fort Mill, S.C.; brother, Mitt Tubbs (Faye); two grandchildren, Barrett Wesley Martin of Rock Hill, S.C. and Brandon Ashley Martin of Fort Mill, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Claire Martin of Fort Mill, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Martin was born in Moundville, Ala. She graduated from Hale County High School, and went to secretarial school in Washington, D.C. directly after high school. Mrs. Martin worked as an executive secretary during her working career, and was president of the Executive Secretaries Club when living in Birmingham, Ala. She was an avid golfer, and loved sports of all kinds, especially college football. Mrs. Martin was actively involved in many charities during her lifetime, including Meals on Wheels and Candy Stripers at the local hospitals in the many cities she and her husband lived in.
Edna Martin was married to her husband, James Albert Martin, for 62 years, before he passed away in 2005. Edna was a wonderful woman and had many dear friends who lived in Park Point in Rock hill, S.C., and who she played bridge with. They will miss her dearly. Edna was a wonderful wife to her husband, mother to her daughter, and grandmother to her two grandsons. She was a firm believer in when God blesses you so much in life, you should give back both to God, family, and community.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Martin, Barrett Martin, Mitt Tubbs Jr., Harold Tubbs, Bobby Tubbs, and George Tubbs.
Honorary pallbearers are D.G. and Dot Elliott and the graduating class of Hale County High School of 1942.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Moundville United Methodist Church.
