She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Augustus Mullins and Dollye Corinne Walker Mullins, as well as her two older sisters, Myra Mullins Baker and Marilyn Mullins Merkle. Elease was the proud mother to Alex Smith (Donna), Beth Smith Malik (Vinny), Andrew Smith (Krysti), and Amy Smith Burnett (Billy, deceased). Her grandchildren were the highlights of her life, including Logan & Ethan Burnett; Shilpa, Sofia, & Nick Malik; Walker & Grace Smith, and Brandon Chrisan (deceased). And, she found great joy in the presence of her nieces and nephews.
As her children grew older, Elease began her career with Hospice while pursuing higher education. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees, both from UAB. Next, Elease moved into Hospice administration, earning a reputation for transforming struggling organizations into thriving ones.
Family and friends described Elease as spunky, with a fun sense of fashion. As a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, she was often seen wearing one of her signature hats. She enjoyed performances by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and other social opportunities.
Elease loved the beach and lakes and was an enthusiastic sailor. Along with her friends, she co-owned a sailboat named The Carrie Lee. On her left shoulder, a small sailboat tattoo signified her passion for sailing.
An avid fan of the University of Alabama, Elease was also an active resident at Capstone Village where she maintained a flower garden in one of the raised beds for the residents. Her newfound love for painting garnered admiration and appreciation from many who attended her art shows and collected her works.
