Elizabeth G. "Gerri" Townsend

Elizabeth G. "Gerri" Townsend, age 73, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 30, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Sammy Hughes and Mr. Dolan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Hughes; her mother, Ora Hughes; her husband, George E. Townsend; her grandson, Gunner Dillion Watts; her brother, Donald Ray Hughes; and her sisters, Margie Crowder and Dot Wiggly.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy W. Guy (Victor); her sons, Mark D. Weaver (Patty) and Mike D. Weaver (Toni); her brothers, Sammy Hughes, Bobby Hughes, and Tommy "Tip" Hughes; seven grandchildren, Raychel and Jet Watts, Christian and Jenifer Weaver, Amanda Bennette, Micheal Weaver, and Heather Self; and five great-grandchildren.

She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She graduated from Holt High School as reigning beauty queen. She will be remembered most for her hard work as a wonderful hairstylist and friend.

Pallbearers will be her nephews and her grandson.

Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Mark Woods, and friends of Clara Verner Towers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
