
Emma W. Mathews, 100, of Tuscaloosa, passed away on July 17th, 2021, in Tuscaloosa. Graveside services will be performed at 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery with Bro. Marvin Keys officiating. Arrangements are by Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
Emma was born in Duncanville to John and Harriet Wheatley on May 5th, 1921. She married Talmadge Mathews on September 18th, 1943, at Alberta Baptist Church. She worked within the community helping families by sitting with the sick and enjoyed spending time with her husband working at Mathews Lake near their home in Duncanville hosting the community for family fun. She was involved with Mt. Zion Baptist Church and would host various small groups into her home for Bible study throughout her life.
Emma is preceded in death by her husband Talmadge, parents John and Harriet Wheatley, brothers: William (Annie-Lee), Ross (Dorothy), Ed (Mamie), Alvin (Ruth); sisters Lydia Hawthorne and Myrtle Poole (Wallace); grandnephew Brandon Blake
Emma is survived by nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Emmons, Clayton Emmons, Sean Heaton, Brian Heaton, Tim Gardner, Billy Gardner, Ronnie Holley, J.R Holley, Justin Smith and Daniel Petty.
