
Eppie Webb New, age 98, of Tuscaloosa, died Feb. 10, 2012, at Regency Retirement Village. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Donald Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Eppie New was a devoted member of Forest Lake Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and the KeenAgers choir. She was a steadfast Christian who always exemplified that in her daily life.
She received her education from Livingston State Teachers College and the University of Alabama, where she received a B.S. in Education and a Master of Arts degree. She was a retired teacher, having taught in both Tuscaloosa County and Tuscaloosa City Schools, spending 23 years as a first grade teacher at Verner Elementary School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Sorority. She was a senior volunteer at DCH for many years and was a former member of the Worthwhile Study Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Bryant New; her parents, Bevely Allen and Leona Malone Webb; and sister, Florita Webb.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda New Mickle (Woodie) of Kankakee, Ill.; grandchildren, Ashley Mickle Preston (Matt) of Ashburn, Va., Jay Mickle (Beth) of Louisville, Ky., and David Mickle (Miriam Dolin) of San Francisco, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, and Jacob Preston of Ashburn, Va.
Honorary pallbearers are her cousins, Harold Rice, Joe Donald Malone, Otis Burroughs, and Willard Wyatt; the women of the Senior Adult Sunday School class; deacons of Forest Lake Baptist Church; and the staff of Remembrance Village at Regency.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Regency Retirement Village and to Hospice of West Alabama for their loving and compassionate care of Eppie.
She touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her. She will be missed.
