IN THE CARE OF
Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Memory Hill Gardens
NORTHPORT – Festus C. Reed, age 82, passed away January 22, 2022 at Northport Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rusty Selman officiating. Entombment will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents, Lonie and T.C. Reed; sister, Helen Boyd; brother, Charles "Sam" Reed; and dear friends, Garland Gray and Jesse Green.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Hutchins Reed; daughter, Tracy Camp (David); sister, Wanda Norris; grandchildren, Victoria Camp, Lucas Camp, and Gunnar Camp; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; and his beloved church family at Northwood Hills Baptist Church.
Festus was born in Vance, AL on December 10, 1939. After graduating from Brookwood High School, he joined the US Marine Corp in 1958, where he served for four years. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire Manufacturing in 1998 after over 30 years of service. Festus was a follower of Christ and a member of Northwood Hills Baptist Church. All who knew him fondly remember his love of corny jokes, golf, gospel music and dominos. Festus was the consummate handyman and could help out with anything; and would, without hesitation. He had a true servant’s heart. He loved the game of golf and played almost daily, until his health would not allow it, with dominos then becoming his treasured pastime. He was known by many early friends and acquaintances as “Buk”, a nicknamed bestowed on him as a child, that many family still call him. His most cherished name was “Pop Pop” as he was known by his three beloved grandchildren. They were fortunate to have him as their “school bus driver” for many many years; allowing them to see him almost daily. He will be greatly missed, but his loved ones here rejoice him being in Heaven.
Pallbearers will be his nephews: Kenneth Boyd, Patrick Hutchins, Roger Hutchins, Scotty Medders, Jamey Payne, and Logan Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers are Billy Ray Camp, Wayne Cooper, Bruce Farris, Jimmy Strickland, Don Williams, Royce Kirkland, Lee Agee, Brooks Jones, Joe Doug Billings, Bob Hubbard, Mark Smith, Charlie Beckman, Don McPhail, and Good Shepherd Sunday school class at Northwood Hills Baptist.
