Frances Mitchell Hamner
November 13, 1948 – June 26, 2018
Frances Elaine Mitchell Hamner, loving wife, nurturing mother and grandmother, and devoted friend peacefully entered eternity on June 26, 2018 at DCH Regional Medical Center. She enriched the lives of her family and friends with love, selflessness, strength, and wisdom. She attended Saint John's Catholic School and was a lifelong member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and attended the Mississippi State College for Women. She thrived as a Legal Secretary for over 35 years with Rosen Harwood law firm. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Victor Mitchell and Anna Mikul Mitchell; father-in-law, Edward Cullen Hamner; brother, David Lee Mitchell; sister-in-law, Virginia Mitchell; and nephews, Phillip and Jeffrey Mitchell. Frances is survived by her adoring husband of 50 years, Gary Edward Hamner, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; mother-in-law, Notie Swindal Hamner, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; son, Dr. Chad Edward Hamner, and wife, Jana Marie Wunderlich, Fort Worth, Texas; son, Eric Michael Hamner and wife, Jennifer Kasprisin Hamner, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Jackson, Wyatt and Owen Hamner, Fort Worth, Texas, and Margaret and Eleanor Hamner, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Dr. John Mikul Mitchell, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Mary Anne Mitchell Cummings and husband, Henry Boone "Bubs" Cummings, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and numerous friends. Visitation is scheduled at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by Mass and funeral services at 11 a.m. with Father Rick Chenault presiding and Father Jerry Deasy assisting. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens, Tuscaloosa, Ala., with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Dr. Chad Hamner, Eric Hamner, Mike Mitchell, Steve Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Chris Cummings, Henry Boone Cummings, Jr. and Scott Gaddy. Honorary pallbearers are Lee Mitchell, Victor Mitchell, Anne Gaddy, Terri Hood, Tracy Price, employees of Rosen Harwood and our Hillcrest Drive neighborhood family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic School, Catholic Social Services, American Cancer Society and American Diabetes Association.
