COTTONDALE – Gerald “Pawpaw” Wiley Capps, Sr., age 77, passed away January 8, 2022 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be Thursday, January 13, 2022 in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Jimmy McSpadden officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Capps was preceded in death by his father, John Erastus Capps; and mother, Clara Mae Hayes.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Capps; daughter, Candice Wharton (Robbie); sons, Gerald Wiley Capps, Jr. (Christy Gail) and Mark Anthony Capps (Penny); grandchildren, Cory Capps, Hannah Capps, Will Capps, Amber Engel (Jason), Cory Wharton (Stormy), and Terra Wharton; great-grandchild, Lily Marie Engel; and a host of other family and friends.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, Pawpaw, and friend. He loved his family and friends, with whom he loved to fish, hunt and adventure. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be John McCullough, Donald Hewett, Jimmy McSpadden, Robbie Wharton, Mark Capps, and Gerald Capps.
