COTTONDALE | Geraldine P. Prater, age 86, of Cottondale, died February 20, 2016. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Junior Latner officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, A Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Morris Prater, Sr.; son-in-law, Dennis James Griffin; grandson, Michael James Griffin; parents, Robert Edwin Patterson, Sr. and Mary Higdon Patterson; brother, Robert Edwin Patterson, Jr.; and sister, Betty Louise Patterson. Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Prater Griffin of Cottondale; son, Dr. James Prater, Jr. of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Maria Reach (Brian), Vanessa Griffin, Dr. Jason Prater (Angela), and Jameson Prater (Brianne); great-grandchildren, Brandy, Brianne and Jacob Toler, Houston and Sarah Prater, Logan Reach, Ayden Grace and Ally Anne Prater; and several nieces and nephews. Geraldine loved her family and she loved God. She was a lady of many talents, she loved to cook and sew and everyone was always welcome in her home. She was a devoted member of Cottondale Church of Christ for many years. Pallbearers will be Brady Toler, Jameson Prater, Vince Parker, Wade Duncan, Chris Davis, David Harbin, Dupree Galloway, Ernie Kimbrell, Brent Mingle, Robert Youngblood and Jimmy Styres.
