Gertie Watson

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Morris David Watson, Sr.; her sons, Morris David Watson, Jr. and Terry Donell Watson; her parents, Wilburn Elijah “Jack” Shelby and Evelyn Dunn Shelby; her brothers, Buddy and Billy Shelby; and her sister, Eileen Jenkins Hubbard.

Gertie is survived by her daughters, Donna Kay Watson Harland, (Ricky) and Deborah “DeDe” Averette Wesson; her brother, Lewis Shelby, (Kathie); her sister-in-law, Clem Shelby; her grandchildren, Chad Harland, (Ginny), Chris Harland, Danielle Wyke (Ryan), Seth Averette (Lauren), and Morgan McCullar (Brad); and her great-grandchildren, Chase, Reese, Brooks, Drew, Ella Kate, Willow, Lily Mae, Emily, and Isla.

Pallbearers will be Tony Averette, Chad Harland, Seth Averette, Chase Harland, Brooks Harland, and Drew Harland. Honorary pallbearers include the residents of Presbyterian Apartments, her neighbors on Hwy 171, and members of Mt Olive Baptist Church and Open Door Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, located at 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35405, on November 13, 2025, at 1:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 2:00 pm.
