Glenn Dandley Ray, Sr. of Tuscaloosa passed away on July 7th, 2022. He lived a life full of love- love of God, love of family, and love of service. Survived by his son Beau (Katie); his stepsons Steven Poe (Kim) and Ryan Poe (Heather Poe); his siblings Dexter Ray and Sheila Duffield (Rob); Glenn was preceded in death by his loving wife Patsy Jeweldean Ray and his parents Nathan Leslie Ray and Bernice Ray. Left to honor his memory are six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
For over 40 years, Glenn served the community of Tuscaloosa as a postman and then worked in service of the University of Alabama and Druid City Hospital. Glenn eventually stopped working when the pandemic gripped the world and his family persuaded him to finally retire.
Glenn also served in many different capacities for Hargrove Memorial Church and was very fond of teaching his Sunday school class. Along with an enjoyment of music and a passion for politics, Glenn took joy in helping others to achieve.
Glenn particularly delighted with each new milestone reached by his many grandchildren, Andrew Ray; Tyler and Tanner Poe; and John Thomas, Jordan, and Jackson Poe. Often the simplest things in life would bring Glenn great pleasure: a knock-knock joke told by a grandchild, an obscure fact from Jeopardy or NPR, or a “treasure” found at an auction.
Glenn loved God and knew God loved him. Glenn wanted happiness for those around him much more so than he did for himself. Living out the Lord’s commandment to love your neighbor as yourself, Glenn embraced and followed Jesus faithfully to the end of his earthly days. He will be missed.
