

Helen Travis, age 98, of Tuscaloosa, died April 3, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Memory Hill Gardens with Rodney Poovey officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Travis.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet T. Thompson; sons, R. Neal Travis (Billie) and Kenneth Travis (Judy); grandchildren, William Travis (Charlotte), Michael Travis (Susan), Kenneth Travis Jr., Dean Travis, and Michele Altis (Dave); great-grandchildren, Tiffany Travis (Ryan), Bethany Travis, Ashley Travis, Adam Travis, Bryson Travis, Brandon Travis, Waverly Altis, and Wren Altis; and special friend, William F. Hawkins Jr.
Helen was born in 1913 in Atlanta, Ga. She was raised in Riverdale, Ga. and attended the University of Georgia. She was married for 59 years to Ralph C. Travis, taught school, and was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Calvary Baptist church for 60 years and was active in all aspects of church.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Calvary Baptist Church, associates of Heritage Health Care, and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or the American Cancer Society.
