Hollis was a strong Christian man who gave his life to the Lord. He was a very loving family man who was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. He loved working in his community and for his church. Hollis was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for over 60 years, serving as Trustee Chair along with various other duties. One of the most rewarding things to him was working as a volunteer fireman for the Englewood-Hulls Fire Department. These volunteers play a vital role within their communities. In addition, he served as President and board member of the Englewood-Hulls Water Board. This was his last job as he decided to step down at the age of 89. Hollis was proud to have served as a Corporal in the United States Army and was in combat in the Korean War. He received several medals and the Alabama Korean War Legion of Honor. If he sat down with any veteran, they would start swapping war stories right away. Mr. Duncan was also a retiree of Romaine Concrete Company where he made a number of lifelong friends.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Tony Caldwell, Sam Davidson, Ian Barrett, Jimmy Duncan, Zack Duncan and CJ Duncan. The family wishes to recognize Members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Englewood-Hulls Fire Department, Englewood-Hulls Water Department, Romaine Concrete Company and doctors, nurses and staff of Moundville Health and Rehab as Honorary Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made, in Mr. Duncan’s honor, to: Holy Cross Lutheran Church (1401 University Blvd. East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404).
