Inez Christian

COTTONDALE Inez Taylor Christian, age 87, of Cottondale, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Memory Hill Gardens with Pastor Dale Glover officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Christian was a loving wife and mother. After raising her children she fostered several children including Brenda Peterson, Sharon Brewer and Tammy Block. She was employed by Gayfers as a seamstress for many years. She was a well known seamstress for the public in Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Christian and her late husband, Joe, were very active members of Cottondale Baptist Church. They were big supporters of Tuscaloosa Christian School.

Mrs. Christian was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Joseph Eugene; granddaughter, Jennifer Christian; and great-granddaughter Dallas Aikens.

She is survived by one brother, Gilbert Taylor (Mary Sue) of Northport; one sister in-law, Lena Taylor of Harriman, Tenn.; and three children, Joe Christian (Shirley) of Tuscaloosa, Jackie Christian (Judy) of Cottondale, and Mary Smitherman (Bobby) of Prattville. She will be greatly missed by her six grandchildren, David Christian (Melissa) of Cottondale, Tracie Pugh (Marshall) of Cottondale, Joei Christian of Cottondale, Carol DeBusk (Bob) of Prattville, Karen Wainwright of Prattville, and Robert Smitherman (Michele) of Toney; and her 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hunter DeBusk, Pierce DeBusk, Jake DeBusk, Courtney Carrol, Christian Carrol, and Jay Wainwright.

Honorary pallbearers are Tom and Dean Cooley, Oscar Booker, Mrs. Louise Bailey, nurses at Hospice of West Alabama, and Dr. and Mrs. Keith DeBell.
