

Inez S. Sutton, age 90, died May 9, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Elberta. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Reagin Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sutton was born in Northport on August 17, 1921. She graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1939 and received her B.S. in Education with a certificate in Library Science in 1943 from the University of Alabama. She spent her professional career with the College of Education Library and Gorgas (Main) Library at the University of Alabama. At retirement, she was serving as head of the Cataloging Department at Gorgas Library. Mrs. Sutton was a lifelong, dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Northport and served in many roles including the United Methodist Women, Church Choir, Bible Study Classes, J.L. Peterson Sunday School Class, Annual Pecan Sales, and Church Bazaar. She is remembered for her positive outlook, "can-do" attitude, and excellent baking skills, most especially her Sour Cream Pound Cake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. "Jimmie" Sutton Jr.; parents, Lula and G.P. Shepherd; and siblings, Emmett Shepherd, Carolyn Price, Mattie Lou Brown, and Clyde Shepherd.
Survivors include her son, Reagan Sutton (Leona); daughter Carol Sutton (Dale Hardin); grandsons Daniel Reagan Sutton (Kim) and James Benjamin Sutton (Julie); and great-grandchildren Shelby, Sebastian, Trey, Maximus, and Jett.
Pallbearers will be Dan Sutton, Ben Sutton, Cliff Sutton, Joey Hubbard, Bo Hubbard, and Mike Stilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Northport or Eagles Wings.
