November 10, 1926December 12, 2012

James Tant "J.T." Coryea, age 68, of Tuscaloosa, was called to heaven Dec. 12, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He will be welcomed home by his wife, Leda Inez Coryea; his parents, Cary Evan Coryea and Mr. and Mrs. O.F. Maughan; and his brother, William Evan Coryea.

J.T. served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an Electrician's Mate 3rd Class. He was very proud of his service to America and told many stories of his service in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW.

He was a former member of Alberta United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School. At the time of his death he attended Druid Hills United Methodist Church, where he was a substitute Sunday School teacher.

After his service he came home and worked for the GM&O Railroad until he moved on to Reichhold Chemical Company, where he worked for 31 years. He was the electrician everyone called when they needed help. He felt that electricity was his hobby, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Miller (Howard) and Donna Lake; four grandchildren, Jason Lake (Monique), Ashley Russell (Nathan), Luke Miller (Michelle), and Gavin Miller (Melissa); and six great-grandchildren, Jackson Russell, Caleb Miller, Aubrey Coryea Russell, Ethan James Miller, McKenna Coryea Miller, and Clover Oree Lake.

Pallbearers will be Jason Lake, Luke Miller, Gavin Miller, Howard Miller, Jackson Russell, and Josh Dogan.

Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors of the Hillsdale community, friends of Druid Hills United Methodist Church, former members of Alberta United Methodist Church, former employees of Reichhold Chemical, and Nathan Russell, who is serving in Afghanistan.

Special thanks to Cherry, who was always there.

Mr. Coryea was a wonderful man. I remember him in some very fun memoires. He always wanted me and Susan, my sister to work the fair with him on Saturday night. I looked forward to that every year. We had so much fun! The second thing I remember him always coming to the church and working on whatever wasn't working. He was always will to do what he could. He will be missed by alot of people. But heaven gained a true Saint! Love the Coryea Family. My prayers are with y'all. Thanks for sharing him with all of us at Alberta!

Linda and Donna,
So sorry to hear of your loss. It was an honor for me to live next door to you and your parents as a child. I was always welcome there as we palyed and missed the visits when we moved away, from Riverview. Kay Hollingsworth Cook

Mr. Coryea lived across the street from my parents, Murry and Inez Wilson. He was always so kind to them and they loved him and his wife. My family's love and sympathy go to his family at this sad time.
