James Fred Hallman

James Fred Hallman, age 83, of Brookwood, died Aug. 27, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Little Hurricane Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Little Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Carrie Mae Hallman; his wife, Ruby Hallman; his son, Jimmy Hallman; and his brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his special friend, Louise Crunk; his daughter, Sherry H. West (John); his son, David Hallman (Jackie); his sister, Clara Wheat; his brother, Otis M. Hallman (Dorothy); his grandchildren, Brandon Rowland, Brandy Boyd, Melanie Boyd, Patrick West, and Summer West; and his great-grandchildren, Hannah Boyd, Bethany Rowland, Joseph Rowland, and Lilly Boyd.

James Fred Hallman lived in Gordo, Ala. until he left to enlist in the military. He was a Navy veteran and served in World War II. He was a longtime member of Little Hurricane Baptist Church. He was an electrician for many years in and around Tuscaloosa. He was a member of Post 34 baseball and American Legion, a chaplain in VFW, started and was a member of the American Legion Post 123 Honor Guard, and enjoyed a very active social life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sorely missed.

Pallbearers will be Tony Boyd, Roscoe Boyd, Rusty Brasher, John Champion, Alvin Thomas, and Randall Wheat.

Honorary pallbearers are DCH sixth floor nurses' station, DCH TSICU, Hospice of West Alabama, friends of the Brookwood community, and American Legion Post 123 Honor Guard.
