VANCE - James William Hamby, born in Tuscaloosa November 8, 1937, passed away April 5, 2018 at the age of 80 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Memory Chapel with Roscoe Kornegay officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles P. and Clara Driver Hamby; and four brothers.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Frances Vanoy Hamby; son, James Daniel Hamby; sister, Myra Barrett; and several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed doing carpentry work. He was a member of the Carpentry local union. He was their financial secretary for several years and business representative for several years. He taught a carpentry class and workshop for several years.
Pallbearers will be James Vanoy, Tim Vanoy, Ross Vanoy, Raiford Vanoy, Charles Gully and James Elbert Howton.
