
James Carver Jones, Jr., age 84, of Eutaw, died Dec. 19, 2010, at home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mesopotamia Cemetery with Rev. John M. Warren officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Carver Jones, Sr. and Eunice Snoddy Jones; and brother, Reginald M. Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Vertrude Tunstill Jones; sister, Eunice Carol Phillips (Julian) of Knoxville, Ala.; nephews, Brian Phillips of Birmingham, Ala. and Douglas Phillips of Knoxville, Ala.; niece, Charlotte Taylor of Birmingham Ala.; and other relatives.
Mr. Jones was born Sept. 25, 1926, and was a graduate of Marion Institute and the University of Alabama School of Civil Engineering. He was employed as a county engineer for Greene County and retired after 38 years. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a cattle farmer and member of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association, Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, the Twenty Three Circle, and Chi Phi Fraternity. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Eutaw and served as Deacon and Elder.
Pallbearers will be Robert Kilpatrick, William Prout, Norton Prout, Joe McGee, Alvis Storey, and Daniel Garnand.
Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons and Elders of the First Presbyterian Church of Eutaw.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 553, Eutaw, AL 35462, the Greene County Ambulance Ser vice, 116 Main St, Eutaw, AL 35462, or the charity of one's choice.
