

Jane Gill Suther, age 92, of Tuscaloosa, died Nov. 6, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama following a short illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Christopher Denson officiating. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack Wilson Suther; her son-in-law, Lester J. Burrage, Jr.; and brothers, Loyd Gill and Fred Gill.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Burrage; her son, David (Judy) Suther; her grandchildren, Leigh Anne (Jack) Kennedy, Steve (Anna) Suther, and Georgia (Andy) Abston; her great-granddaughters, Madelyn Lee Abston and Emma Leigh Kennedy; and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Suther was born Oct. 6, 1918, in McArthur, Ohio, to Harley and Lizzie Chopper Gill. She graduated from Vinton County High School and attended business school in Lancaster, Ohio. She began her career in Washington, D.C. in the Surgeon General's office. It was in Washington, D.C. that she met Jack Suther and at the end of World War II, they were married and moved to Tuscaloosa. She was employed for many years as bookkeeper in the office of Dr. Killough Patrick. She devoted her life to her family and her church. She was an active member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church for 60 years and taught Sunday school. She was also a retired member of the Suzanne Wesley Class and for many years she was district treasurer for the United Methodist Women Association. Her great-granddaughters have been her joy for the last years.
Pallbearers will be Steve Suther, Andy Abston, Jack Kennedy, Richard Davidson, D.S. (Buddy) Burton, Paul Siegel, Hillary Jeffcoat, and Bert Jones.
The family thanks the members of Forest Lake United Methodist, Shinning Light Ministry, the staffs of Morning Pointe, North River Village, and Hospice of West Alabama for their loving care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Forest Lake United Methodist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
