

NORTHPORT - Jane Daffron Whitson, age 84, of Northport, Ala., gained her Heavenly wings on February 20, 2019 at Hospice of West Alabama after an extended illness. A sweet and beautiful lady is now at home with her Lord, Jesus Christ. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home - 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa with burial at Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Revs. Jon Wiggins and Jimmy Garner will officiate the service.
Jane is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, William Earl Whitson; son, William Mark Whitson (Martha); daughter, Cheryl Ann Dickey (David); brother, William Andrew Daffron; grandchildren, William Ryan Whitson (Casey G.); Richard Taylor Whitson (Casey B.), Ashley Nicole Snead; and two great-grandsons, William Grant Whitson and Connor Gibbes Whitson, all of Northport and four special nephews: Andy Daffron, Rod Sterling, Mike Sterling and Steve Sterling as well as many other family members.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Effie Mae Springer Daffron and O. Andrew Daffron; and brother, Robert Frank Daffron.
She was born March 3, 1934 in Tuscaloosa County where she lived her entire life. She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and was in one of the first classes of the Druid City Hospital School of Radiology where she earned a license for x-ray technician. She was a long-time member of Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church where she served her Lord for many years; Jane and Earl were proud members of Jim Bradford's Sunday school class. Jane worked for 23 years with her life-long friend, Dot Robbins at Dr. George Cooper's office of Ophthalmology. She kindheartedly cared for many family members during sicknesses and will long be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a special friend to many.
Active pallbearers are: Mark Whitson, Ryan Whitson, Taylor Whitson, David Dickey, Andy Daffron, Bryce Johnston, Linville Barger and Warren Robbins.
Honorary pallbearers are Gibbes and Grant Whitson, Dorothy Yon Robbins, members of the Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church Keen-Agers, special friends Jim and Zoe Breugem, Jim Bradford, Jerry Mims, Jim Grubbs, Buddy Hinton, James Hughs, Davis Culp, nurses and staff of Heritage Nursing Home and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of West Alabama, Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army of Tuscaloosa.
Arrangements are under the care of Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider.
