Janice Corkren Ellis gained her heavenly reward at the age of 79 years old on November 10th, 2025. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1964. She went on to attend Shelton State School of Nursing and had over a 25-year career in nursing. She worked in many different departments at DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa and nursing homes in Northport and Moundville. She became a nursing instructor with the Career Development Institute, where she taught many students how to have a successful path in the healthcare profession. She went to work at Indian Rivers Behavioral Health of Tuscaloosa as a psychiatric nurse and moved up to the director of “A Women’s Place”, a drug rehabilitation center for women. She left nursing and became a family service counselor for Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa, Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, and Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile.
Her favorite things to do were to spend time with her husband of 45 years, being with her cats that she treated like family, and to talk to her sisters, family, and friends. She loved getting out and looking at God’s creations, from the bay at the Fairhope pier to Cade’s Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains. She made many trips through the years to the beach and mountains with her sisters, nieces, and other family members, and cherished every single one of them. She was always on the move, starting from a young age with her friend Sharon on their bicycles (sandwiches in hand) in elementary school, then later riding around in her car with her friends Sharon, Bootsie, and Pat when they were teenagers in high school. After she retired, she loved to just hop in the car with Joe, grab something to eat, and ride for hours looking at sights in the country and seeing the ocean. She is now at complete peace in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, seeing beautiful sights that we can only imagine.
