
Janice Pate (71), originally of Holt, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 4th 2017, while in the care and comforting hands of the ICU staff at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Janice was raised in the family/fellowship of Holt United Methodist Church. She attended Holt High School and the University of Alabama. Janice was employed by the U of A Independent Studies & Speech and Hearing Department, until she retired. She rejoined the workforce at Randall-Reilly Publishing until 2009, when she moved to Huntsville, Alabama.
Janice will be greeted in heaven by her parents, James and Vivian Phares and her sister Margaret Abston (Rodney). She is survived by her two children, Manda Freeman (Jeff) and Scott Pate (Shannon – dec). Janice has three grandsons; Wolf Freeman (Samantha), Chad Pate and Chris Pate, plus a great granddaughter, Ava Freeman. Additionally, Janice is survived by her sister, Patsy Hammons (Frank – dec) and their extended family residing in Oklahoma.
Janice loved football and was an avid fan of the University of Al Crimson Tide Football Team (Roll Tide!). She enjoyed reading, monster movies, criminal mysteries, country music and though they were no longer married, she had one true love in her life, her former husband and father of her children, Donald Gene Pate.
Her children will hold a memorial at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at 1 pm. Leave your fancy clothes at home, Wear Team Colors – Roll Tide!
