Janie Rhea Smith Bostick

Janie Rhea Smith Bostick, age 79, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1946, in Winchester, Tennessee, to the late Rex and Margaret Bucher Smith. She graduated from Franklin County High School and attended Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL.

During her earlier years in Cowan, TN, Janie was an active member of the Cowan Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated professional who enjoyed a successful 25-year career in banking and finance, retiring from Citifinancial in 2011.

Janie's greatest joy came from time spent with her family. She was known for her baking and culinary skills, sharing favorite dishes with loved ones. An avid reader with a passion for Danielle Steel novels, Janie also generously volunteered with Easter Seals and Caring Days. She was recognized for her warm demeanor and genuine kindness toward all whom she encountered. A devoted Alabama sports enthusiast, Janie regularly attended football games, men's basketball games, and gymnastics meets to support the Crimson Tide. She will be remembered for her deep love of family and the meaningful memories she created with those closest to her.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, her longtime companion Dan Patton, and her former husbands Joe Hunter and Kenneth Bostick.

She is survived by her sons Jeffrey Scott Hunter (Jennifer) of Hazel Green, AL, and James Douglas Hunter of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren Makaya Womble (Austin) of Lynchburg, TN, and Megan Vanhooser (Guy) of Fayetteville, TN; and her great-grandson Fisher. She also leaves behind several loving cousins, including Dena And Ricky Gillespie, who held a special place in her heart.

A memorial service will be held on September 12, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, AL, with interment in the Rose Garden.
