Jayne Stapleton White

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend to many. She leaves behind family and friends forever changed by her kindness, strength, and unconditional love.

Jayne was the heart of her family. She loved everyone with an open and generous spirit, and she had a special way of making each person feel seen, valued, and cared for. Her home, her arms, and her heart were always open. One of her many joys was having family over for meals and celebrations.

She lived a life of sacrifice and service. Those who knew her best knew that she would give everything she had to help someone else. Her love was not only spoken—it was shown in the countless quiet ways she cared for others, put their needs before her own, and carried her family through both joyful and difficult times.

As a mother, she was a source of comfort, guidance, and strength. As a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she was a treasured presence whose love created memories that will be cherished for generations. Her legacy lives on in the lessons she taught, the prayers she offered, the meals she prepared, the hugs she gave, and the love she poured into every life she touched.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love will remain a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her.

Jayne is survived by her children, Kenneth Gills (Robin), Ramona Moore, Charles “Chuck” Gills (Jennifer), grandchildren Troy Powell (Amy), Christopher Powell, Joel Gills, Tara Gills Stannard (Kenny), Anna Gills Cain (Hudson), Briley Gills Hutchins (Jarred), Chase Moore, Mikayla, Asher and Abbi, great-grandchildren, Brandon Powell (Katie), Grant Powell (Kloee), Hannah Powell, Djuna Gills, Cosima Gills, Luke Stannard, Elliot Ruth Cain, and Evelyn Claire Cain Great-great grandchildren, Paisley Powell, Layla Powel, Caroline Powell, and Rowan Powell, special friends whom she counted as grandchildren, Caleb Ivy (Kathleen), Abby Kate Ivy, and Maddie Cain, and a niece whom she counted as a sister, Martha Gibb, Stepchildren Suzanne White (Allen), Carolyn Bailes (Melinda), and David Sydney (Kate) and many relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Stepgrandchildren, Laura Farmer (Eric), Tricia Schmandt Gray (Jason), Joanne Wilson (Terry), Lennie Schmandt (Catherine), Joshua (Courtney), Jonathon Wilson, Jeremiah Wilson, Sydney Bailes and Sarah Bailes, and Step great-grandchildren, Jonah Wilson, Rylee Gray, Brooks Gray, Althea Mirabella, Mirabai Wilson, Sandino Wilson and many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Roy S. White; 10 siblings; granddaughter, Gracie Jayne Moore; great-grandson, Kenneth Powell; stepchildren, Roy Goodman White and Gail Schmandt; and step-grandson, David White.

Graveside services will be officiated by Jonathan P.S. Ivy at Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:00 am.
