Jeannie Wade Ayers, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by her family. Born on October 10, 1948, in Munford, Alabama, Jeannie was a beacon of kindness and generosity whose unwavering love and warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
The devoted wife of the late Dr. Randall Ayers, Jeannie embraced life with a servant’s heart and a vibrant spirit. Together, they embarked on numerous mission trips, blending their passion for service with a love for adventure. Her family brought her boundless joy, especially her cherished granddaughter, Lauren, whose upcoming college graduation in May was an occasion Jeannie had eagerly awaited.
Jeannie’s life was a tapestry of laughter, wisdom, and love. Her infectious humor and masterful storytelling were a source of delight, and her advice—a combination of profound insight and heartfelt care—was a gift to all who sought it.
In her later years, Jeannie made Crimson Village her home, where she brightened bingo dates, reveled in the fun of penny auctions, and treasured spirited gatherings with friends. To know Jeannie was to know her love for her dogs, who were not merely pets but family.
Preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Rebekah Gambrell, Jeannie is survived by her son, Robert Gambrell, and his wife, Erica, as well as her granddaughter, Lauren. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, her partner-in-crime Pam Park, and a wide circle of friends who became family.
Jeannie’s kindness and compassion touched countless lives, and her legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
A celebration of Jeannie’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, January 18, at 1:00 PM. Her family invites all whose lives she touched to join in remembering her remarkable spirit.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Tuscaloosa Global Mission Fund or Hospice of West Alabama in Jeannie’s memory.
