
Dr. Joan Chilcoat Kempster, age 67, of Tuscaloosa, died Oct. 6, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville with Rev. Ron Wilson officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rayburn Chilcoat.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Kempster; her son, David "Bart" DuPuy; her stepdaughter, Kelley Thompson (Lee); her stepson, Trent Kempster; her sister, Myra Howell (Jimmy); her mother, Mary Chilcoat (Hank); her mother-in-law, Betty Ephraim; her granddaughter, Hanna Sutton; and her step-grandson, Ryan Thompson.
Known for her compassion and benevolence, Joan assisted thousands of students in pursuit of higher education.
Pallbearers will be her uncles and cousins.
Honorary pallbearers are retired and current staff and faculty of Shelton State, Dr. Ronnie Stanford, Ronnie and Judy Holmes, employees of Tuscaloosa Tire and Service, and staff of Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
