Our dearest Cousin Archie will be missed at the family reunion Sunday. His wonderful smile and love of family is ours to treasure. We loved him so much . See you in heaven someday precious one.

Mr. Hitson was my principal in the mid 70's.  I remember his smile, laugh, and gentle but firm leadership with the teachers and students.  Schools need more men like Archie Hitson. I feel blessed to have had an opportunity to work with Archie and Brownie Hitson. Archie hired me to teach at Skyland and Verner Elementary schools, and Brownie taught at University Place when I was principal.  They were both truly dedicated educators who have greatly influenced many teachers, students and parents, through their professionalism, friendship, leadership, and kindness.

Archie Hitson was my principal at Skyland Elementary  50 years ago and I still remember him.  Rest in peace, Sir.

Mr. Hitson had to be one of my all time favorite people. He was my principal for the 5 years I attended the "original" Verner Elementary. His life touched and changed too many lives to count. The streets of Tuscaloosa will miss the old BMW with his smiling face. Heaven has definitely gained an Angel. He will be treasured and missed around not only Tuscaloosa but wherever his light shines in those he touched! Elizabeth Duren Barnett

I am also saddened to hear. Mr. Hitson was my principal at Verner Elementary School from 1986-1990. I remember him as such a great leader, kind, and always had such a great smile. Recently, I saw him every Sunday this summer at the Calvary crosswalk and welcome door. A welcoming smile and sweet spirit. Well done, Mr. Hitson!!!

He was a very nice man. Sorry to hear of his passing.

I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Hitson's passing.  He was such a wonderful man who made sure his hallways were in great shape!  May you all seek  comfort in God as he leads you through this time of sorrow.

Mr Hitson, I will always treasure my memories of your ever-present smile and the twinkle in your eye. For ten years you made my Friday mornings at Calvary happier with your gentle spirit. You are much admired and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Hitson was my twin brother's sixth grade teacher at Verner Elementary. He never forgot me and my brother, I am certain there has never been a better loved educator in Tuscaloosa. I loved Mr. Hitson and his family will be in my prayers.

Mr. Hitson was the principal when I was at Verner Elementary.  I don't know how he did it, but every year he seemed to know every single student by name.  He was an incredibly kind man and nurtured a whole generation of Tuscaloosans.  It was a blessing to have known him.

Mr. Hitson was a man that made quite an impression on me as a student at Skyland Elementary School.  He was always present and willing to help (and discipline) young students as they went about their days in school.  I remember Mr. Hitson as a man who loved what he did and one who made you a better person just by being around him.

Mr. Hittson was one of a kind , he will be dearly missed .

The Hitson's were such good friends of my parents, and  good neighbors for many years in Hillsdale. We also worshipped at Calvary with them for many years. How exciting for us when Amanda entered their world, and ours. Because of this sweet family, our lives were made better......

I have the privilege of being a friend of Archie's beloved daughter, Amanda and met Mr. Hitson this past June. What a beautiful soul whose love for his family shone through every word he spoke.  A wonderful man who we are honored to have met.

Somehow game-day in the alley won't seem the same without Mr. Hitson.  You always knew it was close to kickoff time when Archie wheeled-in.  The small amount of time we were able to share with this kind man became very special to us.  It was an honor to know you....

Archie and Brownie Hitson were two of the greatest!  I was privileged to be their pastor for 13 years.  They were such a blessing in my life and I think of them often.  The world was truly a better place because of them.  I am amazed when I think of all the children that Archie touched in his life.  Calvary Baptist Church was unquestionably touched by his wisdom, devotion, and generosity.  Archie may have been short in stature but he was a giant in wisdom, insight, and leadership.
