

Johnnie Lee Sexton, age 81, of Tuscaloosa, died March 3, 2011, at Northport Medical Center-DCH. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Gil McKee and Rev. Carl Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie A. and Annie Lee Sexton; and his sister, Ann Givens.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Peggy; his sons, Johnnie Lee Sexton, Jr. of Shalimar, Fla., Tony “Randy” Sexton (Cherry) of Coker, and Lt. Col. Ricky Sexton (Veronica), currently stationed in Germany; his sister, Jane Starling of Thomaston, Ga.; his grandchildren, Julie Earnhart (Kip), Hannah Crutchfield (Chris), Anna Lisa Sexton, John Christian Sexton, Ben Evans, Leigh Hallmark, Jordan Stanley, and Mariah Stanley; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Sexton was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Chapel Sunday School Class, Triple L Senior group, and Second Hand Rose Ministry, and was a church greeter. He loved going on work trips with the church's Builders for Christ Ministry as long as his health permitted.Mr. Sexton loved being with friends, fishing and camping, motorcycle riding, square dancing, traveling, going to estate sales, playing cards with his “card buddies” Dave, Mary, Bob, Kat, and Peggy, and having early morning breakfast for 20-plus years at Wright's Restaurant (the office) with his retired buddies. He loved Alabama football. Most of all, he loved his family and friends. Johnnie will truly be missed.
