Mr. Hester was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Shirley A. Hester; and parents, W.L. and Tressie Hester.
Survivors include his sons, Greg Hester (Chare) and Eric J. Hester (Sharon); daughter, Cheryl Parker (Marlon); grandchildren, Eric O. Hester (Teleisa); Brian Hester; Shannon Lambert (Daniel); and Erica Hester (Steven): great-grandchildren, Rylee and Parker Broadrick; Brilee and Kyson Hester; Nathan Schofield; Senecca Smith (Chase); special friend, Janice Smelser; cousin, Willie Mills; and numerous family and friends.
Hoyt was an avid golfer, and he and Shirley traveled all over the country playing golf and sightseeing. Being a member of the Tuscaloosa Country Club until it closed, he became very good at the sport as evidenced by his winnings. They were members of the Air Stream Club and traveled many miles over the United States with special friends. Born and raised in Holt, Alabama, Hoyt became a member of the Cradle Roll at Holt Baptist Church on June 6, 1935 and continued his membership to Forest Lake Baptist Church after the merger. He worked at McAbee Construction Company for many years and actually retired three times.
Hoyt was a die-hard Alabama fan and loved watching Alabama football. During one of his doctor visits and assessments, a nurse asked him "who is the president of the United States"; he snarled and said, "I can tell you who the coach of Alabama Crimson Tide is". She asked "who", and he said "Nick Saban". The Iron Bowl get-togethers will never be the same without our beloved granddaddy.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are members of Forest Lake Baptist Church; McAbee Construction Company; Southeast Fabricators, Inc.; B.F. Goodrich; and the Good Samaritan Clinic. Special thanks to Dr. John Miller, Dr. William Hill, and Dr. Grant Williams.
