Margaret was a simple woman that lived a simple life. She grew up in Tuscaloosa Alabama and remained there her whole life. She was an active member of First Wesleyan Church in Southside. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and was a proud Black Bear. She married John Graham at a young age and they enjoyed gardening and preserving their fruits and vegetables. Although she lost her first child at birth, she went on to have two other children, Lawrence and April. Margaret and John were devoted to each other and made sure that they gave their children as many travel opportunities as possible by going on vacations to Washington DC, Disney World, Virginia, and annual beach trips. They also provided many wonderful hours of entertainment and fun through our membership at Mimosa Park.
Margaret was a very artistic person and used that talent as a floral designer. She owned her own flower shop, the Mari Mar, for several years. It was during those years that she brightened many lives with the arrangements that she created, Homecoming corsages that she made for the UA sorority girls or funeral sprays designed to celebrate someone’s life. Later on she worked at several other flower shops and even helped establish the floral department at Walmart when it first opened. She spent many years working at Walmart and made hundreds of friends by always being a friendly face when they were shopping.
When she wasn’t working a real job, she was very dedicated to the PTA of University Place Elementary School. She was always involved in helping raise funds, organizing Family Fun Nights or just helping the teachers around the school.
Margaret didn’t have many hobbies, but she loved a good card game. She was a very loyal member of the Tuscaloosa Moose Lodge for many years. Her best friends were her card friends and during the last few years they took amazing care of her. Her friends never hesitated to drive her to an event, roll her around in a chair or just generally dote on her to help keep her active. The family is very appreciative of the love shown to her.
She was affectionately known to her family as GG or Sister. She always wanted to be with family and looked forward to every holiday, birthday celebration, vacation and family event! When her grandchildren were young she attended dance recitals, school productions, baseball and softball games and even travelled with the ball teams when she could. She was so proud of her six great-grandchildren and until recent years never missed a ballgame or dance recital.
Pall bearers will be Randy Daniels, Scott Barton, Robert Kennedy, Kevin Bohannon, Joey Martin and Kenneth Humphries.
The family appreciates all of the love shown to her and the rest of us.
