Marie Jackson Crawford

TUSCALOOSA – Marie Jackson Crawford, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., received her call to Glory March 26, 2017, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Hayse Boyd and Jerry Lake officiating. A Committal Service will follow at 2:45 p.m. in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Ala. with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Augustus and Lizzie Jackson and son, Crosby Roy Crawford.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Crawford of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughters, Joanne Marie Crawford Stokes (Ronnie) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Connie Harris (Brad) of Boone, N.C.; sister, Grace Jackson Kenyon of Niles, Mich.; and grandchildren, Conner Crosby Stokes of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Daniel S. Harris of Vilas, N. C. and Andrew S. Harris of Deep Gap, N.C.

Marie was raised in a large farming family near Lake Odessa, Michigan. She attended Western Michigan University where she met her sweetheart, Roy Crawford, Jr. They were later married and both were school teachers and Marie for 19 years. She was a devoted wife to Roy and mother and to their three children. She loved cooking (always having something delicious in the kitchen), sewing (not just hers and her families clothes but knitting and cross stitching too) and gardening (she was the "flower lady" who brought the bouquet from her garden for the church alter and it was said of her that she could plant a 2x4 and it would sprout flowers).Marie was a Christian and knew her real home someday was in heaven with Jesus.

Pallbearers will be Ronald K. Stokes, Conner C. Stokes, Bob Rhynard, Daniel Harris and Andrew Harris.
