Marion Eugene Baird

TUSCALOOSA – Marion Eugene "Gene" Baird, age 82, of Tuscaloosa, died July 2, 2017, at the VA Hospital under Hospice Care in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Pugh and Rev. Bobby M. Shedd officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Margie McMen Baird; daughters, Wanda Norris (Tom) and Terri Ryan (Mike); sons, Steve Baird (Gail), Keith Baird (Kim) and Kevin Baird (Carlie); sisters, Karen Scott, Mary Jo Baird, Sharon Waugh and Kaye Baker-Lambert; grandchildren, Michael Ryan (Jamye), Matthew Ryan (Melissa), Rachel Pierce (Jonathan), Jeremy Norris, Katelin Baird, Kaley Grace Baird and Ann Elise Baird; and great-grandchildren, Allison Ryan, Austin Ryan, Easton Ryan, Everly Ryan, Logan Pierce, Ashley Coons (Brian), Heather Hayden and Joshua Hayden.

"Gene" Baird was born on November 2, 1934, in Walker County, Alabama. He served in the Air Force from 1953 – 1957, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and Sidi Slimane Air Force Base in French Morocco, Africa.

Gene Baird worked for Burroughs / Unisys for 39 years then started his own business, WestAla Computer Systems, Inc., where he worked for four years before he retired.

Pallbearers will be Michael Ryan, Matthew Ryan, Jeremy Norris, Joshua Hayden, Jonathan Pierce and Danny Maness.

Honorary pallbearers are friends, neighbors, and caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alberta Baptist Church, VA Hospital of Tuscaloosa, or Hospice of West Alabama.
