TUSCALOOSA - Marvin Preston Williams, age 80, passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior September 13, 2019. Services will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with David Maxson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Preston Williams and Mayme Blount Williams, Fayetteville, N.C.; sisters, Rachel Williams Nordan, Ida Mitchell Williams Jackson, Eunice Williams Friedrich, and Etrue Williams Bright of Fayetteville, N.C.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Catherine "Cathy" Williams; son, Derek Preston Williams (Carol), Alabaster, Ala.; brother, Paris Williams (Gwen), St. Pauls, N.C.; grandchildren, Lauren Grace Williams and Andrew Preston Williams of Alabaster, Ala; several nieces and nephews.
Marvin was a 1957 graduate of Massey Hill High School in Fayetteville, N.C. He served in the United States Air Force at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. He married the love of his life, Cathy Williams in 1964. He moved to Tuscaloosa in 1965 and worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. until he retired in 1994. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. His favorite hobbies were spending time with his grandchildren, who he adored; drinking coffee with his friends at McDonalds; watching old cowboy movies; reading, watching Alabama football and North Carolina basketball; cooking and listening to gospel music. He was a people person. He never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone. He was always laughing, had a good attitude and a great sense of humor. He was the light in our world and will be dearly missed by all that know him.
Pallbearers will be James South, Stan Griffin, Kevin Chappell, Kent Phillips, Dwight N. McDaniel, Jr., and Jonathan Davie.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. William Hill, Dr. Anne Lewis, nurses in DCH cardiac ICU, nurses in DCH cardiac cath lab, hospitalists, Dr. Mohammad Azam, Dr. Krista Friedrich, Donna Phillips, friends, neighbors, and Sears retirees and former Sears employees.
Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Omer Baker, Dr. William Hill, Dr. Ross Vaughn and his nurses for years of great medical care. We will never forget you!
