Mary Cannon Gaddis passed away on June 17, 2026 after a long battle with dementia and cancer. Her journey of strength, grace, and endurance has ended, and she has received the healing and rest she so richly deserves.
She is survived by her daughters, Pat Tingle (Billy). Donna Gates, her grandchildren, Brad Gates, Brittney Thornburg (Eric). Jordan McKinney (Nick), and five great-grandchildren, Phoebe and Jace Gates, Ford, Collins and Fisher Mckinney. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jerome Cannon, her parents David and Lois McIntosh. brothers Clifton and JW McIntosh, and sister Nellie Frances Payne.
Mary was many things in life: a daughter, a sister, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a friend - but for most of her life she was Nana.
She gave her children the absolute best childhood, a true Ozzie and Harriet lifestyle. Her love of family was evident in everything she did. She made every occasion special; Christmas time was truly magical. Her house was always spotless, her cooking skills unmatched, and her famous chocolate cake was legendary among all who knew her.
Above all, her greatest legacy lives on in her grandchildren and the deep love they have for her. She was a loving Nana who filled their lives with unconditional love and support, never missing a ballgame or ballet recital.
She was a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church where she found joy and fellowship until dementia took away her ability to attend, but her faith remained a steady anchor.
Nana truly lived a life of quiet, consistent devotion, and we are so grateful for the example she set as a wife, mother, grandmother, and follower of Christ.
Visitation is Monday, June 22nd, 12:30-1:30 at Memory Chapel Funeral home with graveside services at 2:00 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Bro. Gene Dockery officiating.
Pallbearers will be Lambert Payne, Billy Tingle, LE Tingle, Brad Gates, Eric Thornburg, and Nick Mckinney.
Honorary pallbearers are caregivers Mary Hudson, Linda King, Mary Hollie, and Annette Tingle.
The family would like to thank the staff of Caring Days, Crimson Village dementia unit, and Hospice of West Alabama for their compassionate care. Our heartfelt thanks to Aliceville Manor Nursing Home who provided extraordinary care over the course of four years that went beyond expectations.
Everything we are she helped create - with her love, her sacrifice, and a life spent caring for us all. We hope everyone is blessed to have a Nana in their life, because we sure were. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
