Mrs. Mary A. Lancaster, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023, at Hospice of West Alabama. She was born August 24th, 1931 in Perry County, AL, to the late Carl “Woodfin” and Charlie “Eunice” Clinton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dan; daughter, Sylvia Burroughs; brothers, Earnest and Rodney Clinton; sister, Mamie Johnson, Ann Hughey, and baby Mildred. She is survived by her son, Dennis Lancaster (Carole); Son-In-Law, Dean Burroughs (Lana); brother, Thomas Clinton; two sisters, Alice Pittman and Edna Wilkes (John); grandchildren, Chris Burroughs (Joy), Justin Lancaster, and Sarah Thacker (Scott.) She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Abby Burroughs, and Kady, Gracie, and Colton Thacker.
Mrs. Lancaster married her late husband on New Year’s Eve in 1950 in Columbus, MS. They were blessed with 50 years of marriage. She worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation for many years and often enjoyed sharing stories of her time there.
Mrs. Lancaster, lovingly named “Maw-maw” and “Grandma Mary” by her grands and great-grands, was an active member of her church and community throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling with family to many different states and attractions. Later in life, her favorite place to be, other than apartment 1107, was in the quiet town of Heiberger, AL.
Mary was a precious wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a steady presence and comfort to those around her, even when she prematurely lost her daughter in 1979. Those close knew her for her unwavering faith, calmness, uncomplicated lifestyle, and talent for cooking. Those even closer will also remember Mary for her quick wit, insight, and empathy toward others.
Mrs. Lancaster is now rejoicing with those in Heaven gone before her. Her family is thankful for the gift of her long life on this earth. She will be sorely missed, but she will be saving us a seat.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, between 9:00 am and 10:00 am at Tuscaloosa Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am at the church, with burial at Memory Hill Gardens following.
