M. J. (Sonny) Falgout, Jr. died on November 25, 2022 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the age of 90. Sonny Falgout was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on September 15, 1932. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and received a technical certification at Shelton State Community College. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Maurice Joseph Falgout, Sr. and Ludie Mae Kirk Falgout, sister Theresa Falgout Avery and brother Rev. William Donald Falgout. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann H. Falgout, son Dr. Howard (Joey) Falgout (Sherry) and daughter Donna Hardin (Brion). Sonny was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Heather Hayes (Logan), Ryan Falgout (Roxanne), Lindsey Hardin, Braxton Hardin, Brandy Shaw (Jeremy) and 6 great grandchildren. He served his country during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sargent in the Army, while stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Falgout was ordained a Deacon at West End Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa and served his Lord faithfully there for years before becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, his present church home. Sonny lived his Christian Faith in humble devotion to his wife, his family, and his church. Mr. Falgout was employed by Gulf States Paper Company in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for 25 years and retired from International Paper Company in Selma, Alabama in 1992. Mr. Falgout enjoyed the fellowship of his Sunday School Class (Agape) and the First Baptist Triple L Ministry. He loved music and enjoyed singing traditional Baptist hymns while participating in both congregational worship and choir arrangements. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Sonny’s life on November 29, 2022 at Memory Hill Gardens at 2:00pm, with the visitation to precede the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. Pallbearers will include Ryan Falgout, Braxton Hardin, Chuck Malone, Jason Avery, Stephen Bridgers, and Jeremy Shaw. Honorary pallbearers are The Agape Sunday School Class and The Falgout’s Sunday School Class of First baptist Church of Tuscaloosa. The family also expresses their sincere appreciation to Chasity Tingle, R.N. of Enhabit Hospice for her tender care of Sonny Falgout and her loving support for Ann Falgout.
In leu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Mr. Falgout’s memory to the World Mission Offering of First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
